I have heard nothing but returns on so many ATI cards from friends, I will never buy one. I am a NVIDIA guy myself, but with alot of new cards being produced you will see lots of this new shit. Like the the new water cooled vid cards that are just now selling for a grand or more a piece, which to me is a piece of junk.

I've only used ATI so far... no problems that I know of. I guess with Vista though we'll need that 1GB of video ram :P
8500DV AIW AGP 64mb
x850pro AGP 256mb DDR3 - this card is a gem too.
x1950xt PCIe 512mb DDR3

So what if they don't take every price point?
Considering that I see alot of games with nVidia splash screens/logos I think there's more to any percieved problems than meets the eye.

According to Bill Gates himself, he said you need 4GIGS of ram to run it the way its meant to be run, but then again, thats bill gates..LOL. Vista is getting better with compatibility issues, but the service pack is just around the corner to fix all that junk.
Right now I run a eVGA GeForce 7600GT pci that will last me a while untill the 8800's drop.

I should probably mention that I'm not a hardcore gamer... I didn't need to update my 8500DV until the free version of FEAR came along. That computer is still crippled with an AGP 4x slot but the x850pro gave me very playable framerates in FEAR. The 8500 ran Sim City4, UT99 and ut2004 fine and a handful of other games that couldn't hold my interest for more than a few days. I put a little bit of a priority on having AV jack in/out capabilities on my video card so that influenced my choices too. The 8500DV even has a firewire jack... would be nice if they still did that IMO but it's not what the majority of the market wants. I wonder if the on-board sound of this new ATI card will end up being crap compared to a dedicated audigy card or something similar.

you have to know that the ATI HD X2900 did not came to compete with 8800gtx, it's competition is just 8800gts and she is a very good competitor. The price on both cards is very similar. If ihad to choose then my choice would be ATI. I think the card has lots of potential but not already explored on the current drivers. Thats jus my opinion.
BTW i'm a proud owner of a x1950xt and i love my baby so much.

I didn't think this was already on the shelves... $400+ for the 512mb version at least - no 1GB on newegg yet.

Some people are ATI people, and others are NVIDIA people. Ill tell you what, you are one of the lucky few who dont have to replace your ATI much. Statistic on RMA's will show that ATI gets more returns than NVIDIA. This is due to them creating something new, and rushing it out like crazy. Then someone will blow a transitor and shit after two months of having it!
