06-03-2020 - New PC Build

Postby Sean » Wed Jun 03, 2020 2:44 pm

Hello all,

I have a new Thermaltake 500W PSU :

https://www.thermaltakeusa.com/smart-500w.html

I am not looking to build an awesome gaming rig, just something modern with a lot of RAM and a decent CPU. The video card I have chosen thus far is :

https://us.msi.com/Graphics-Cards#?tag= ... TX-2080-Ti

I'd like to have a minimum of 16 GB of RAM, and I was on : https://pcpartpicker.com/ looking around. The MB I chose supports 32 GB of RAM, so okay, let's roll with it. I chose 4 sticks of 8 GB each. Then their site said "This does not work with that." I thought that site took the guess work out of a PC build, but it looks like I was mistaken.

Any suggestions you guys have the time to make, I am open ears.

TIA

How much are you looking to spend on the whole PC? That video card your picked out RTX 2080 Ti is like over 1000.00 bucks.

Yeah, they must have changed the HTML of their site just as I posted that yesterday. It's a GTX 1660 ti - This is the card :

https://us.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForc ... -GAMING-6G

I saw it for a hundred bucks 2 days ago, now I can't find it. I don't really want to go too crazy with the build. Like 600 dollars maximum. I'd like to get a new monitor on top of that, too. The one I'm using is seventeen years old, and there aren't any artifacts, but I compared it to a new screen and it's tired. I'd like to grab a curved monitor. I think it would really cut down on the glare from sunlight.

Know anyone that has experience with one ?

700.00 seems to be a sweet spot for a entry level gaming pc these days. Most seem to have a Ryzen as the heart. AMD is kicking some ass lately.

Check out these video's. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... build+2020 They have some pretty good suggestions.

You could probably get to the 600.00 mark by replacing the video card in some of these videos with the 1660 you posted above. The 1660 is a pretty good card for the money.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is getting built before Summer's end. I've had enough of my tired, old junk.
